April 2026 Athletes of the Month

The Mules Booster Club has named Sydney Turner and Beau McCormack of Poplar Bluff High School the Athletes of the Month for April, presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors.
Beau, a senior tennis player, had a 16-1 record for the season. He was a gold medalist at the Farmington singles tournament and qualified for state in doubles two years in a row. The second male student in over 13 years to receive a scholarship to play tennis, Beau signed a National Letter of Intent with Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar.
Beau’s coach, Michael Sowatzke, variously described the student-athlete as having a “great attitude, great work ethic,” being a “strong anchor,” “always coachable” with the “ability to follow through with coaching advice mid-game,” and “invaluable as a recruiter for the team and its future.” Beau earned “necessary consistent wins this season as we became district champions,” Sowatzke concluded.
Sydney, a sophomore soccer player, has scored 25 goals with 10 assists as of this recognition and is on pace to break the single-season scoring record this year. She almost broke the unofficial season record for goals scored as a freshman as well.
“Sydney is a phenomenal athlete and leads our team in almost every area on the field,” said Adam Vincent, her coach. “She is one of, if not the most conditioned athlete [on] our team, has a very high intelligence level of soccer, and is one of the best teammates on the team through her encouragement and sportsmanship on the field.”
